What does it take to bring an event like the Street Velodrome to Worthing? Aside from a dedicated management team, a fantastic community of cycling and sports enthusiasts and plenty of long, long days, it takes local companies to see the value of getting involved as sponsors to really pull off an event with a truly local feel.
For 2016, we were delighted to welcome Lancing College as the headline sponsor for the StreetVelodrome. Keen to get involved from the very first mention of “innovative cycling event”, Heather Beeby, Head, Lancing Prep at Worthing said:
“It’s great for the local community that StreetVelodrome is coming back to Worthing this year and we’re delighted to be a part of this exciting initiative – a healthy and exciting way for everyone to have good fun!”
Supporting sponsor was Southern Railway, whose cycle friendly carriages encourage all of us to pedal beside the sea or up onto the Downs.
Andrew Harrowell, Community Investment and CSR Manager for Southern Railway, said:
“At Southern we are passionate about helping our passengers make sustainable journeys, including those to and from our stations. The Worthing StreetVelodrome is a great opportunity for people to get involved in cycling, think about getting fit, whilst having fun, and we are pleased to be working together with the Councils to support this.”
Accompanying Southern Rail as a Supporting Sponsor was Worthing Homes, who provide affordable rented homes, key worker accommodation, low-cost shared ownership, sheltered housing and new homes for local people.
Jackie Bligh, Worthing Homes’ Chief Executive, said:
“People, communities and opportunities are at the heart of what we do. The Velodrome is a fantastic way of promoting these key elements as it is an event for people of all ages that really brings the community together and we are very pleased to be a part of it.”
